History Joy Division has begun per 1976 with concert Sex Pistols in Free Trade Hall in Manchester, on which there were local guys Peter Huk, Bernard Diken-Albreht (the future pseudonym — Bernard Samner) and Terri Mason. In some days they have decided to create own group. Ien Curtis who also was present at that concert, has agreed to become the vocalist of new group.

They were called Warsaw, in honor of the song of David Bowie with the same name. In the group name the word-play «war saw» was used, and guys, besides, seriously were fond of Second World War history.

At night before the first concert Warsaw Mason has left group. However, soon it became the manager of group. Tony Tabach became the new drummer, but hasn't held on in group and month because of own «oldfashion». It was hard to find the following drummer. Warsaw didn't carry with drummers. Following, Steve Boverdejl, also has held on in group only one month and has left because of personal hostility to him of Huk and Sammer. At last, by August, 1976 Steve Morris has come and for ever remained in group.
